1.2.3. B-rdy Night Vision and Thermals Basics Workshop

The course is based on our own methodology and we had proven the high-level of course with Czech top units. We have also reflected a number of scenarios from real self-defense situations and operations undertaken in the dark in the course.

The entire course is conducted in the spirit of the B-rdy Performance Oriented approach, which means we focus not only on technique execution, but also on the ability to shoot effectively in low light conditions.

GEAR & EQUIPMENT

Mandatory equipment:

  • Helmet or skullcrasher with a suitable shroud for attaching the Wilcox L4G24 mount or your own NVD system
  • Headlamp and handheld flashlight
  • Eyes protection (ballistic glasses)
  • Hearing protection (we recommend active hearing protection)
  • Rifle on a sling with a mounted flashlight and self-loading pistol in a suitable holster for concealed carry
  • at least 3 magazines
  • at least 200 rounds per lesson
  • Gun licence and ID

  • Presentation and theory – night vision options (image intensification vs. thermal imaging), concepts and terms, NVD components (housing, lens, eyepiece, switch and power management, accessories), types of housings, Image Intensifier Tubes (IITs) and their components (photocathode, MCP, phosphor screen, etc.), history and classification (generations and contracts, HyMa vs. GAAS), Out of Band, converter parameters, manufacturers, white vs. green, housings and their selection, accessories, and mounting and many more
  • Settings and mounting
  • Focusing and changing the focal plane – mono/bino
  • Working with illumination
  • How to operate: Passing through space and refocusing for identification
  • Backlight and dark/light transitions
  • Weapon settings and use of laser and lighting – rifle/pistol
  • Passive vs. active mode – aiming, planting, placement, and sight height
    a. Loading and unloading a weapon in night conditions
